Suomenlinna

Great Island close to Helsinki Kauppatori

Today after lunch, we went to Suomenlinna. This island is near Helsinki harbour, and you can take the ferry (with the same ticket that we use for trains, buses and metro) from Kauppatori.

Suomenlinna was used like a fortress to defend Helsinki in war times. You can find already a lot of guns, and some walls that remind you that.

The ferry leaves from Kauppatori each 30 minutes more or less, depend the time, and it takes about 15 minutes reach the island.

Balbina in the Ferry.

It's a good tip bring a sweater with you, also on summer, 'cause it's a windy area.

It's a nice place for relax, listen the sound of the sea, close your eyes and.................................maybe eat some fruit near the coast, but take care with the sea gulls(lokki in finnish).

And of course take care with the sliding rocks near the sea, I said that 'cause today we were laying in the rocks and Radek slipped and fell down into the water..............................It was just a small problem but he had to change his clothes and wear my jeans ;)

Radek the waterboy

If you are planning going to Helsinki, you shoud visit this place, there are some incredible views and some gardens where you can sleep for a while (with nice weather).

One more thing, like Balbina said me today, the Fortress of Suomenlinna belongs to the Unesco Heritage List.

Inside the fortress.

So, don't foget it, if you're in Helsinki and you have time for tourism, you should go there.
