Marco's trip ti Russia - St Petersburg

Last week in one of the most historical cities in Europe.

Marco was in St.Petersburg with a trip organized by his polytechnic school in Hyvinkää. I talked with him about it last Friday night, in Kathrin's and Angela Halloween party and he was really happy and excited about the journey.

Then he sent me some pictures to put it here in the blog. I would like to have more comments about the pictures and the trip but actually I don't have, so please Marco if you can write it just send me and I'll add to the post.

This city seems really beautiful and nice. I'm looking forward going there but maybe on Spring, with better weather.

Read Marco comment:

St. Petersburg...northern capital of Russia...300 bridges..."Venice of the north"...five days trip through a city full of history and culture

In this town was born a fantastic writter Fjodor Dostojevski. He is one of the favourites of my sister Sol. I strongly recommend to read some of his books, really hard and realistic. If you want to know more about him use Wikipedia.

More information about St.Petersburg is also available in Wikipedia or in lots of websites on the internet.

The most important street in St.Petersburg is the Neva river.

I really want to go to Russia, maybe also to the capital city, Moscow, on spring. Will see, but the trip from Helsinki is not so expensive. There is one bus line that connect St.Petersburg with Helsinki and the ticket is 10 euros one way. The problem is that if you don't want to join an organized trip, which are more expensive, you should go with somebody who speaks russian.

On the other hand, things is Russian are cheaper than here, meals, hotel, alcohol, presents, almost everything. But you should take care because is not so safe place than Finland.

Actually Kathrin is in St.Petersburg and Moscow in a trip organized by Helsinki University. I'm sure she is taking lots of pics ;)

  1. I went to S.Petersburg last year with my belarussian friend and looking all these pictures I was reminded the great moment I had there! It is a great city, I liked it very much, maybe because I was a guest of a russian family (my friend's relatives) so I could discovered a little bit of russian culture and of course russian food (pelmeni forever!)! Anyway, I also strongly recommend to read russian literature: now I'm reading "War and Peace" by Tolstoj, one of my favourite author. It is a pity because it is not a safe place as Miguel said, but people if you have the chance to go there by an organized trip, take the chance!

  2. That sounds great Ramona that you had the possibility to spend some time with a russian family in a russian flat. Thats much more than just be a visitor of the city who runs and runs to see all the interesting places. There is so much hectic in the streets. I was a little bit dissapointed in those situations when I asked somebody for the way and mostly the people didn´t react. Even there was one russian woman we asked, she didn´t know the way and asked other passing people, but no chance to get info. Another time I´ll post more about this interesting city, also give some hints for traveling in St.Petersburg. Maybe Kathrin also wants to post something here, she already traveled there. So other time more.
